Jenna Smith, new Dreamstarter recipient receives Grant from Running Strong for American Indian Youth

Our Choreographer, Jenna Smith is a recipient Dreamstarter grantee with Billy Mill’s Running Strong for American Indian Youth.

In April of 2016, Jenna and her mentor were invited to Washington, DC Dreamstarter Academy, where all 10 Dreamstarters and their Mentors gathered with Billy Mills and the Running Strong staff.

In September of 2016 she began using the grant to take ballet into the public school system. She spends one or two weeks at each school teaching ballet during their PE classes. Most of the children are in 1st through 4th grades.

Jenna and Kelci Pickering have been to Indian Camp Elementary and Pawhuska Elementary in Pawhuska, OK; Woodland Elementary in Fairfax, OK; and Barnsdall Elementary in Barnsdall, OK. They will continue with more schools in 2017.

Jenna is honored to have the opportunity to give back to her community. Her heart is with her Osage people on the Osage Reservation and she is happy to be serving there.
In 2014 she opened Dance Maker Academy in Pawhuska, OK. She currently has 99 students in ballet, jazz, and tap, including 10 boys in a ballet class for male athletes, and an adult tap class.
